Ellsworth Family,
We just wanted to let you know that we were so saddened to hear about this tragic accident. We have been patients of Dr. Ellsworth since he started in Cedar City and I feel like he saved my life when he found and removed a mole that was melanoma on my leg. I have gotten to know him and loved to talk to him about Mexico. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Our hearts go out to the Ellsworth family as we pray for them. We love you and will continue to pray for your loss. Families are forever and God's purposes are higher than what we know. We do know that Dallin and Dr. Ellsworth were men of God, the most loving and caring of men. Men who know the Savior, men you ask God that he will send a friend like them. These men were answers to prayers. They will always be remembered. Again, our hearts and prayers are with the family. We love you.

Dr. Ellsworth and staff saved my life. The Doctor and I always talked about Hawai'i when I came in for regular check-ups. He knew he was always invited to visit us there in the islands. I'm in Saipan now loading ammunition for the military and feel terrible. These people were just the finest. My family and I won't forget them. They are with the Holy Spirit now and I hope I see them again.

Dallin and Brother Ellsworth were two incredible people. It was a privilege to be Dallin's friend. I will miss him, we all will. Dallin was so talented in so many things, but not even his soccer skills or his abilities with the cello could surpass his ability to love and make others feel important.
My prayers are with you, especially with you Kamber.

My heart is heavy at this unbelievable loss. Dr. Ellsworth treated me for the first time on Friday. Though the waiting room was full and he was very busy, he and his entire staff made me feel as though I was the most important. I truly don't recall seeing a doctor when I felt he and his whole staff were sincerely concerned about me. I can't imagine your loss, but my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I first heard of the accident yesterday through the "grapevine" of the Internet. I was not a patient of or did not know any of the people on the plane. However, I am originally from Utah and have lived, worked in, and visited most of the places that Dr. Ellsworth and his team worked in. Our daughter currently attends SUU. I know the distances involved and how far it would have been for people to drive to get the help that your family members were providing on a regular basis and I am in awe. I hope you know how loved all of these people were.

I don't know why this happened now, but I do know that the Lord is watching over and working with those of you still here. Those words may seem a cold comfort but rest assured they are much more. I have spent my whole life learning this and want you to know that you are in the prayers of our family. God bless you.

We so appreciated Dr. Ellsworth coming to Kanab on a regular basis to treat patients here, one of whom was my husband, Norm. Our hearts go out to your family and the families of the others on the plane. We know how much your loved ones will be missed, but also know your knowledge of their whereabouts and your future reunion will bring comfort to aching hearts. May God bless you in the days ahead and comfort you. Please know many prayers are being offered in behalf of you and yours.

My name is Kristin Tietjen. My daughter is Robyn Gubler who worked with Dr. Ellsworth and his team for the last 2 years. We are overcome with sadness for your family. Robyn thought the world of Dr. Ellsworth. She often said he was the best boss ever and she loved her job so much. we're glad she moved to Iowa when she did, otherwise her name would be in the paper this morning. Lansing was such a great person! He was our family dermatologist and friend. I last talked with him on Wednesday at the Redmen Football Tailgate party. He was standing in line for a hamburger, He was holding his cute little granddaughter, when he said hello to me and my son. He said to me smiling, "this is my granddaughter, isn't she cute"? I told him that I couldn't wait for my own grandkids. He was beaming from ear to ear as he walked around showing his friends, his blonde haired little granddaughter. He always had a calm presence about him and made you feel comfortable whenever you were at his office. So sorry to hear about your son as well. What a blessing for him to be with both of his Father's.

Our thoughts are with you all....

Dear Ellsworth Family –

What a sad time for all of you. My husband and I were patients of Dr. Ellsworth. I thought he was a skilled and caring physician. I was impressed by him and his staff. During my last visit, I remember how proud he was of one of his sons who was off to Utah State with an Air Force scholarship and had just received his pilot’s license.

I can only hope that your many happy memories will provide comfort in the days ahead.

LynAnn, I don't know if you remember me or not, but I was your Schwann's man about 8 years ago. I remember Dallin was 15 and you had just finished helping him with his eagle project the park. I didn't get to know your husband as well, but the few times that we talked he seemed like a very special person. I am so sorry for your loss, and you and your family are especially in my sincerest prayers to our Heavenly Father. We spoke of how your husbands' ancestors led the same handcart company that mine were a part of. I know that your husband and son are in good company, they were true pioneers in our day and age. I worked for Dr. Ellsworth and with Dallin and am heartbroken at the loss of these great men! Working with them was a great experience! After a long day on a trip to Page, AZ, right before boarding the plane, Dr.Ellsworth did his impression of Chris Farley in the "Van down by the river" skit. Put 150 pounds on him and he could have been Chris Farley! So funny! I was privileged to have known and worked with these two men! May their memories always be carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved them!

I am terribly saddened to hear of Lansing's death. In a little more than a week it will have been 31 years since we met each other and became room mates our freshman year of college at BYU. Lansing was a great young man of ability and integrity then. Although I have not kept in contact with him, from the comments others have posted it is obvious that he fulfilled his potential--professionally and personally.
My heart goes out to the surviving members of his family. I cannot imagine the heartache they feel at this time to loose two family members so tragically. May the Lord bless them and strengthen them. And may they once again receive the assurance that families are eternal and they will be together again.

Dear Families,
I was deeply saddened by your losses. As I sit by the computer reading about the accident, my 10 year old son, David said "We know how that feels". We, too, lost someone in an automobile accident in October of last year. My heart goes out to you and you are all in our prayers. I did not directly know any of your loved ones, but I know the niece and cousin of two of them. I can promise you that several things will happen. You will feel the Love and Comfort of Our Heavenly Father and Savior during this time period. They will not forsake you. Please cling to that fact and know that They and your loved ones are near. Families ARE forever and you will see them again and they are waiting for you on the other side. Your hearts will break at times, but your hearts will also soar. Sweet memories will crowd your mind and you will be comforted. Your community and state are praying for you and this will also strengthen you when the times are tough. Asking why does not help much, but being still does. Know that you all are in many people's prayers and hearts and you are not alone. May Father's richest blessings be poured out upon you during this time and in the future while you carry on.
With love and understanding,

He provided medical care to many who really needed his help. I am sorry for your loss. May God be with you....

I just want to express my deepest and most sincere sympathy to your entire family at this time. I became a cancer paitent to the clinic back in March. I couldn't afford to have my surgery done at that time, I went and picked my mail up I had recieved a letter from Dr. Ellsworth himself letting me know he would help me out in any way he could to have my surgery, I made the appointment with him and had it only a few days before he was called back to his father in heaven. I just want to say I am very honored to known such a caring and wonderful man. My love for you all at this time.

I first met Ellsworth at the MTC in Provo, Utah. I had the opportunity to work with Ellsworth many times in the mission field as he was a member of many of my zones. He was steadfast in the work and loved by many, I want to pay my last respects to a person that was an excellent example of the love that Christ feels for each of us. Knowing Ellsworth, he would want each of us to rejoice every time we hear the sound of his voice, and know that he feels no pain. He is where he is needed.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Ellsworth and his wonderful staff. They have been so kind to me over the last 10 years as I have benefitted from their expert care. It was always an enjoyable "visit" rather than a routine trip to the Dr.'s office. I was amazed that they remembered so much about each of their patients when they saw so many, and, of course, the conversations were always funny and lighthearted.

Dear LynAnn, Hannah, Chris, Kamber, Marie & family,
We mourn with you deeply at this time. Your family is the finest family we have ever had the chance to associate with. How grateful we are for the chance we had to meet 16 years ago. For the many adventures we had with our families - hiking, camping (which Lansing didn't love :), family picnics, story time at the library, swimming, dinners, temple nights, parades, and get-togethers. The blessing that your family has been to ours is immeasurable. If anyone had to think of a family full of love, compassion, kindness, service, patience, sacrifice and endurance it would be the Ellsworth family. LynAnn, I can imagine one of the greatest reunions ever will be that of you and Lansing. You will receive a hug like no other!! I'm sure Dallin is with his sweet son now giving him all of his love, preparing him for his earthly journey. He is filling up that sweet baby with many hugs and kisses so he can share them with his mom when he is born. Kamber we pray that the birth of your sweet baby will comfort you like no other - to have a part of Dallin always with you. You will all be in our hearts and prayers. Chris, Elder Ellsworth, your dad and brother are so proud of you! I can see them smiling down upon you as you serve the Lord. Hannah and Marie, what beautiful daughters you are. You have both grown up to be just like your mom, full of love and Christ-like service. Our hearts and prayers are with each of you. We are so sad for your loss, but rejoice at the knowledge that you will be with them again. May God be with you until you meet again.

I doubt you would remember us, but we were in the Linden Ward in Tucson--we moved in right after we got married. Lansing was the elders quorum president and a couple years later, when we moved to Utah, he was the bishop. We taught your daughter in nursery and remember the whole family affectionately. I especially recall learning about the priesthood under Lansing's care and direction: visiting people in the ward weekly, inviting people to come to church, engaging in service projects, temple trips, ward activities. He was always hard-working and practical in his service. I have consciously attempted to emulate his service as I have served in a variety of callings. We remember Dallin as well, who was primary-aged and later a deacon about the time we moved--an active, radiant boy.

We read of the accident with shock and sadness. We extend our deepest condolences to those left behind. We know that the Lord will bless you and pray for the comfort of the Holy Ghost during this period of separation.

With much love,

I can't help but smile through my tears when I remember Lansing...
- holding the tweezers and grinning victoriously after retrieving the carrot bit lodged high in the nose of my toddler son.
- shaking his head at his silly friends while they played and discussed current music with no desire to join the fuss.
- speaking sweetly of his children forever honoring them with the devotion and the pure love of a humble father.
- always in 501's on the beach. (Perhaps I do recall some very lily white legs exposed on rare occasions.)
- asking me kindly to calm down when I was too excited about an idea to express myself with clarity.
- championing my opinions with scriptural back-up when others thought me to be off base.
- glancing lovingly at his stunning wife Lynann with complete awe and admiration.
- kneeling with friends and family in sincere communication with our Father.
- reaching out to others with honest generosity and compelling sincerity.
- annoying me during trivia games with that computer like brain.
- never quite comfortable with the concept of just relaxing.
- willingly sharing his innate wisdom without belittling.
- lip-syncing "So Long, Farewell" with his family.
- lying that my swollen eyes looked fine.
- tipping over in the canoe.
- setting off fireworks.
- being true.
I'll miss you Lansing, though we'll chat again someday.
Your forever friend,

Lynann,
Renee pretty much already said it all but now it’s my turn. It was a weird way to start a friendship. Getting invited by mutual friends to the beach in Rocky Point, Mexico. The first time I saw Lansing he was on the beach wearing...jeans. That was so many years ago and the odd mixture of six couples from Tucson, who took time every year to go back to Rocky Point to enjoy each other's company, share each others hopes for the future, solve our own and each other's problems, solve the political problems of the world and along the way, became the best of friends only to spend many other trips to other places and gatherings for different occasions.
The years have taken some in the group to other towns, including you and Lansing, to make lives for themselves and their families. But Renee and I always looked forward to the next gathering of the group whether it was at Roy's, Cancun, Disney World, Rocky Point or the Thurber's hot tub (not that there's anything wrong with that).
I got the biggest laugh when I read the post that said Lansing was imitating Chris Farley doing the "In a van, down by the river" routine. I have a feeling that it was actually Lansing, imitating Jeff, imitating Chris Farley. Jeff always did the best Chris Farley.
I know we will see each other soon and my thoughts and prayers have constantly been about you and Lansing. Life will go on and our little "Mexico" gang will undoubtedly get together again. But now I know this; As long as I am still in mortality myself, I will forever have an advocate in heaven while I am ditching Sunday School.
Renee and I will be forever grateful for the friendship we share with both you and Lansing, and although he may not be with us now, we know we will someday all be together again. Until then, we will always remember Lansing for the great friend he truly was.
We love you.

I cannot say that I know, just how you feel
For your hurt is so great, and will take God's touch to heal

Yet is it possible for such a wound, to completely ever mend
When you've lost your mate, parent, child or good friend

Please know that I pray for you, each and every day
And feel God's Holy Spirit, in small and simple ways

And then I am reminded, of such a simple phrase
With all the strength that's in you, please walk by faith

So come to me and talk about, anything you feel
For I'll be here in body, but Christ will soon reveal

That while it is impossible, for a friend to end your pain
HE will bring about a peace, and in your hurt sustain

I have always been envious of the fun trips to Mexico and the fun things you have done with them. They have told us many times how many things you both do for other people and how generous you are. Many people live a whole life time and never touch lives like your family has. I hope you know how much you are loved. Our prayers are with you and your wonderful family.
Hugs forever,

I knew Dallin in High School. I considered him a good friend. I couldn't beleive it when I heard this tragic news... He truly did touch the hearts of many. When I was taking my wife through the Mesa, AZ temple to get her endowments, Dallin and his lovely bride were there. He was so excited. I will always remember that event. The beauty of the gospel is that we truly can be together in the eternities. My thoughts are with all of those involved in this accident. I still can't beleive such an event has shaken the hearts and wonderful people of Cedar City, Ut (my home town). God be with you, till we meet agian...

My heart is truly broken for all. I've had the upmost pleasure of knowing all staff that have been coming to Page Hospital for the past 6 years. I had the honor to get to know each one of them on a personel basis, it was the highlight of my job when they were scheduled to come. Fun loving, hard working, genuine care of patients, each other and God. I loved each of them dearly each so special in their own way. I am attending their rememberance memorial Monday, none will ever be forgotten. Prayers for stregnth to all.

Dallin and Kamber were both students in my Bio241 Molecular and Cellular Biology Lab class at BYU. Dallin also did two semesters of mentored research in my research lab which is affectionately called the "Mafia Lab". I was very sad to hear the news this morning, and I had hoped that perhaps I had heard the radio announcer incorrectly. My heart goes out to Dallin's family and to Kamber. Dallin was an excellent young man and a good student. I am glad to have known him.

Dallin was an excellent young man. I had the opportunity to befriend and mentor him in Dr. Burnett's Lab at BYU. I am deeply saddened to hear that this happened. It could not have happened to a nicer person. I remember vividly how excited he was to be married and his exuberance for life and school was more than evident. My sincere prayers are with his sweet and wife and family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ellsworth family. Dr. Ellsworth has been our family's dermatologist since we moved to Cedar City 3 years ago, and our hearts just broke when we heard the sad news. I just saw him last week (and met Dallin, who was in the office that day). I owe his office a debt of gratitude for discovering an unusual melanoma, and arranging for a speedy surgery. He was one of Cedar City's finest physicians, and he will be missed by all.

Dear Ellsworth Family,

We are very sorry to learn of the tragedy that occured last weekend. We attended medical school at Seattle together, my family and I were always appreciative of the friendship, kindness and example both Lansing and Leanne shown. We always admire Lansing for his hard work, compassionate and can do attitude. The way he endured Veteraniary school, medical school, then two residencies. I barely completed my surgical training.

I got to know you, LynnAnn, when we travled to the Salt Lake area for the "Three Wishes" gift to the Happy Factory. My daughter Connie and I roomed with you. I remember finding that we were distance cousins because my Grandpa George Ellsworth is a cousin to Grant.

When we heard of your loss we were all deeply touched. I lost my mother to cancer last year and I can tell you that the Holy Ghost can and will heal the heart and that the blessing of the temple are real. Hold tight to your testimony and the day will come when things will be better. You and your family are in our prays.

Dear Ellsworth Family

We were so sorry to hear, from many sources, of the tradgedy that has befallen your family. Dr. Ellsworth has treated both of us in the past. What a loss to the community and all of us.

Sister Ellsworth we know a little of tradgedy as we lost our son just 3 years ago. The Lord will be with you and your children as he was with us. Please know of our love and admiration for you and your family. What a blessing you and been and will continue to be to the Cedar City Community. We are sorry we will be unable to attend any of the memorial services. We are just finishing the first year of our mission here in Greece and will not be home for another 6 months. Dr. Ellsworth was one of the first visits we had planned to make upon our return. Our prayers are with you and we know you will have the faith to continue on, even after this tragic experience. I worked for this very staff for three years and my heart goes out to all of their families. I am still in shock about what has happened and still have a hard time believing it. It was truly an honor to work with such a great staff. Dr. Ellsworth was an awesome boss, friend, and just a great person to be around. He taught me so much and truly helped me make it through nursing school. He would quiz me on our road trips to Richfield and Delta getting me ready for my oh so many tests. I also remember him being so excited for my missionary to come home even though I wasn't sure I was. He got me my first job over at the hospital when I finished school and got my RN license. He never said a negative thing about anyone. He seemed to love his family his job and his life. It was a privilege to work with one of my hero's and I will miss him, his friendship, and his wisdom.
I didn't know everyone in the plane crash, but I did work with five of them. Dallin was mostly on his mission when I worked for him, so I didn't know him as well, but I sure heard a lot of good things about him.
I just want you to know that I think about you all constantly every day and I am so saddened by this. I wish there was something that I could do. My heart goes out to all of you. It was truly an honor to know and work with such a wonderful group of individuals. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do for you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

We were stunned to discover that our beloved bishop from the Linden Ward in Tucson and your son who served his mission in Argentina, where we again reside, were taken from this world so suddenly. (We also lived in the Buenos Aires South Mission, Banfield ward/stake six yrs. ago. Our oldest son also served in that same mission.) Given the conditions of weather, equipment, and pilot skill it sure appears that Lansing and Dallin were called home (along with the others) after passing the tests of this life. Dear Ellsworth Family,
I am a sister of Keith Shumway. I hope and pray that you are feeling the blessing of the Great Comforter's hand as we are. I have been thinking about this for days and finally had a few minutes to look at it closer. I knew once I heard the Ellsworth name that we had Ellsworth's in our family line as well. I don't know if Keith remembered that or not. After reading that your family came from Arizona I am more convinced that we probably are related. My great grandmother was Lydia Ellen Ellsworth (born June 12, 1889). She married George Grant Brewer. My grandmother was Laverta Brewer who married Chester Martin Perkins. I don't know where exactly the link would be but I am curious. If you know where it connects we would be grateful to know. I firmly believe that our relatives on the other side of the veil help us to stay connected. It isn't by chance. If there is a connection- for me that puts a little different spin on things. I am grateful that Keith associated with so many great people. We love him and will miss him, but I know that he is called to greater work. I know this is true for your family as well. May the blessings and comfort continue to flow.

My family and I have had the honor of knowing both Lansing and Dallin. Lansing cared for our daughter through an acute, dangerous, and scary illness, and he went WAY beyond the call of duty both professionally and personally with his care and concern for her. He treated all members of our family, and was easily one of the nicest, smartest, most caring doctors I have ever encountered not only in my personal life, but also within my professional life. His true soul shone through constantly in all that he did. I considered him not only my family's doctor, but my friend.

I had the honor and pleasure of having Dallin in my MCAT review course this spring with the rural health scholars. It was a true pleasure to have him in class, and it was also a joy to have the chance to have some really great conversations with him about his future. I remember one particular conversation we had where I basically said to him that his Dad was one of the best doctors and people that I had ever met. I then very bluntly asked him if that was ever intimidating to him. Dallin very earnestly looked at me and simply said, "No, I am really blessed to have him as an example. I have some really big shoes to fill and some great footsteps to follow. If I do half of what he does I'll have done well". What a beautiful, pure and honest answer. Dallin was one of "the guys" that just shone so brightly in all that he did. He instantly became more than just a student to me. He was one of the guys that became a friend.

Now there are two sets of "really great" footsteps for all of us to follow.

The tremendous amount of care and compassion that they both gave to so many people will continue to be a reminder and example of how all of us are charged with a mission of service to others.

Please accept my family's deepest condolences on this immeasurable loss, and we pray that the Lord will bless you with comfort and peace.

Sincerely,
Mary Jo Tufte and family

My husband is self employed and we carry no insurance. I go to school with Dr.Lansings niece and Dallin's cousin Diamond Fullmer. She came home from her weekend trip to Utah and was in shock from the tragic events that occured Friday. It was even harder for her to come to grasp because she had spent Friday evening with her Uncle Lansing at her boyfriends motorcycle race. She speaks of him as not only her Uncle but as a hero, saving her life and her sister Cameo's life. She spoke of her cousin Dallin and how he spoke of his son, that would be here soon. I know that these men have touched a lot of hearts and will be truly missed!

I remember Lansing well as my elder's quorum president when I was a freshman at BYU. He was a great friend and inspiration as I prepared to serve a mission. So much, that I took on being a room mate to his brother David when he came out to school during his first semester. How we ever managed to keep David's parrot from being found out at Deseret Towers is beyond me!

What great brothers, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to know them both. Shortly afterwards, I headed on a mission to Colombia where some months later I lost my own father during my service there. So I know something of the pain and the peace your son Christopher is and will continue to experience in Japan. My prayers and heart go out to all of you.

Everyday throughout the world thousands of people die.

Circumstances are diverse: Unborn children lose their fathers, living children their mothers, wives and husbands are widowed, mothers grieve, fathers weep. Death can come as respite and relief; death can be abrupt and cruel.

Causes are disparate: Diseases, wars, accidents, evil designs of individuals and despots, floods, earthquakes and other natural phenomena, old age.

Clinically the tally of deaths in the world are reduced to aggregations and statistics.

Theologically there is meaning in death and purpose to life.

Biologically death is an imperative for all living things.

Personally there is sorrow and grief at the death of our beloved.

Death can seem so random -- when, where, why, how death comes.

My family has been deeply saddened by the plane crash and the death of 10 people doing good in the world, doing good in their families. We have connections to some of the victims, directly and indirectly.

We could not sleep the Friday night of the accident.

We could not stop thinking about the families and friends who were grieving.

However, the Leavitt company and the media and the community have made it possible for my family to get to know a little about the victims and to grieve their deaths and to honor their lives.

We have been strengthened by the memorials; our hope enlivened and our courage increased.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Dr. Ellsworth had been treating me. He would phone me on the weekends to give me biopsy results. He would apologize for calling so late but say that he was catching up on his paperwork and his calls to patients. When I received a call Saturday morning about the plane crash, I expected it to be him calling with the results of my latest biopsy. I am still deeply sad that such a fine doctor who was dedicated to his work, patients and most importantly, his family has been called home so soon. My faith will get me through and know that there is a reason that so many wonderful lives were lost and taken from us so tragically.
Dr. Ellsworth was one of a kind who will be greatly missed.

LynAnn and family,

We were so saddened to hear about Lansing and Dallin. We haven’t seen you all for quite a while but our hearts were certainly touched by your family, and we still feel close in some ways. We shed tears for you and your family as we thought of you coming to grips with this tragedy. I can’t imagine your feelings at this time, but I know that your family is a family of faith, and that the peace of the Holy Ghost will comfort you and shield you from despair. You are certainly in our thoughts and prayers.

Whenever I think of Lansing, I am reminded of the first time I remember hearing his name. I met with a high councilor who was calling me into Lansing’s elder’s quorum presidency. During the conversation he asked me if I had a high regard for Lansing, and I had to honestly say that I did not actually have a clear recollection of who he was. He was very surprised, and almost acted offended as he pushed me to think more about it. I finally just told him that since it was a big ward, I’m sure that I knew him but just didn’t recognize his name. Later in Elder’s quorum, I saw him but still didn’t have much of a recollection of talking with him, other than maybe greeting him at the door. Then when he stood up to make a few remarks to the group, he talked briefly about his counselors. When he came to me he said, “I don’t really know why Theron was called - I don’t really know him, but the Lord knows”. I was amazed at the faith of a man who was asking the Lord for inspiration in choosing helpers and was willing to take a chance on a nearly complete stranger. This was my first impression about him, and as I got to know him better, I grew to love him for his kindness, thoughtfulness, his sense of humor and his dedication to what he knew to be right. He is a great friend, and I look forward to meeting with him again in another realm.

We sure love you guys, and we wish you the best. We have very fond memories of your family. You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

I just wanted to share my thought with the family. Keith really enjoyed working with Lansing and Dallin. Dallin was Keith's best friend and we had just played games the weekend before. Keith spoke nothing but good things of Dallin and Lansing. Keith was so excited the Thursday before the accident. He came home to tell me that he thought the world of Lansing. I guess it was a rarity that Lansing would slow down and take time to explain what was going on in the exam room. He would go so fast that you just had to learn to keep up. Keith was so excited when he got home because he said that while he was charting for Lansing that day, he slowed down to teach him what was going on and what he wanted on the charts. Keith was so touched that he would take the time to explain things and to mentor him. Keith was thirsting after knowledge and he couldn't get enough while he was working there. He told me as he started the job that he loved being a stay at home dad for a little while but that working for Southwest was the best thing that had happened to him. He finally felt fulfilled in life, that he was finally getting somewhere to acheive his goal in the medical profession. It wasn't just another dead end job that wouldn't help in getting him where he needed to be. He absolutely loved Dallin and Lansing. He was so grateful to Dallin for getting him the job. He spoke nothing but good things. Dallin was in RHS program with him and Keith always said how smart Dallin was and that he could go anywhere in life. Keith couldn't have asked for a better friend. Kamber, know that I am always here. We are in the same boat and will need each other to lean on. I love the Ellsworth family and couldn't be more grateful for everything that you have done for our family. We will be forever grateful. We love you.

Dear Ellsworth family,

I just received the news of the tragedy that occurred several weeks ago. I served in Mar de Ajo, Argentina with Elder Ellsworth, and I will never forget the example that he was to me. His unwaivering faith and obedience were astounding.

I only served with him for two days on splits, but I was able to get to know him quite well during that time. I remember his determination to learn Spanish, as he was still early in his mission (6 months) when we served together on the coast. He would do a set of 10 pushups at the end of the day for every english word he spoke during the day. I never heard a discouraged word from his mouth, and he was truly dedicated as a disciple of Jesus Christ. I have no doubt that his determination to spread the good news of the Gospel will carry forward on the other side of the veil. I met no other missionary who shared his optimism in the work of the Lord, even despite the fact that he was in one of the most difficult and least successful areas of our mission.

My thoughts and prayers are with Kamber and all of the Ellsworth family.

Sincerely,

Nathan Phelps

I have lived in Mesquite for only two years. The impersonal "shoving of patients through the system" assembly line style or treating patients like annoyances seemed to be the norm here. I don't think any of my doctors even know me or care a fig about me. All that changed with my first appointment with Dr E>!!! He was the role model, that all the others could learn from. He was the epitome of a, kind caring knowledgeable physician who dispensed individualized medicine. I was honored to have such an outstanding, professional and kind human being for my doctor. His loss is a major blow to medicine in Mesquite. He stood alone. My deepest sympathy to his family and also to those of his associates.

Dear LynnAnn & Family,

Our hearts are heavy realizing that the Moab tragedy included Lansing and Dallin. Kitty and I both served with Lansing in the Paraguay-Asuncion Mission. Lansing and I were greenies together in Concepcion and seasoned Zone Leaders in San Lorenzo. We shared many spiritual experiences. We didn't hesitate to give blessings to one another in times of trial. He was one who listened to the voice of the Lord.

He dedicated his life to service for others. Even in college, he had that in mind. I teased him at BYU for always having his nose in a book. That's how he was able to do so much.

Please know we share your grief. We're certain that the Lord has already put him to work in service to others. May God bless you with His comfort and peace at this terrible time.

You are in our prayers,
Les and Kitty Oswald

I just found out about Lansing and Dallin today and I am so devistated by your loss of Dallin and Lansing. I don't know if you remember me, but your family left a very good impression on me and still does. After you left Tucson I lost contact with your family. Then one day I saw Lansing on TV doing a sigment about 2 children you could not go outside due to being allergic to the sun. Then they announce the Doctor and it was Lansing. I yelled I know him and my family just thought I lost my mind. I've had the upmost pleasure of knowing Bishop Ellsworth. I worked at the Department of Pathology, University of Arizona, when I first met Dr. Ellsworth. Second time was when Bishop Ellsworth and LynAnn joined our Linden ward in Tucson with their children. As a Bishop he was honest, compassionate, warm, understanding and truly a messenger of our Heavenly Father. He gave me a blessing which I can still remember his calming & sincere words. He was a devoted husband and father. You always felt good when he and his family were around. As for Dallin I can remember very little, but I can remember how cute he was.

I remember he would bring corn down from his father's farm in Mesa and dump it on the front yard. We could pick out our own corn for $2/doz. It was the best corn ever. I would take orders for several years from my job because everyone knew how great the taste was and the price was good. Sometimes several of us from the ward would go up to Mesa to the Temple with Lansing and LynAnn and afterwards we would go to his parents home where his parents would have snacks for us. LynAnn I don't if you remember me, but I use to hang around Mary Greer and Sharon Morgan.

I love you and your family and will continue to pray for your loss. Families are forever. Lansing and Dallin are choice spirts who have finished their purpose here on Earth. As one person said, Dallin is with both his fathers now. May you feel the comfort from all the prayers and that the Holy Ghost will also be with you and your family at this time.

Sincerely,

Joanne McGinnis

Remembering Lansing
By
Anne Hawkins Welsh

I recall the first time I met Lansing because he made such a positive impression on me. I was working at the Thomas- Davis Urgent Care Center on Oracle Road when he came in with wrist pain. (It would have been in about 1995, when he was a resident at the University of Arizona.) His wrist was not seriously injured, but I was so impressed with his professional manner that I asked him if he would like to” moonlight” at our urgent care centers. He declined because he was working elsewhere, but it was only a short time before our families became good friends and neighbors as part of the Sunrise Ward.

The Ellsworths purchased a home in our area and were remodeling it. Lansing invited us over to see the work he was doing: laying tile, painting, and landscaping. He was very handy around the house and was ambitious in tackling difficult projects. In fact Lansing was always very ambitious (in a good way), moving forward in every aspect of his life. I was surprised by his skills in remodeling, but I was more impressed by the many talents that he had including common sense, compassion, intelligence, faith, and a positive attitude. He had perfected the art of setting and accomplishing worthwhile goals. He was exceptionally skilled in an amazing array of activities including fatherhood, church leadership, medical practice, business, farming, and community leadership.

We became good friends in Tucson through our shared connections. Our oldest children, David and Christine, were the same ages and were close friends with Marie and Dallin. Christine taught piano to Hannah and Christopher. Also, Rene Allen, Lansing's older sister, a practicing physician colleague in Tucson, was a neighbor and a good friend in the Sunrise Ward. I remember participating in special family events at the Allen and Ellsworth homes which included Lansing’s and Rene’s dear parents and their other siblings. The Ellsworths are all fine people and we continue to enjoy our association with them.

Lansing and LynAnn are a truly remarkable, proactive couple. They were married young and have grown closer through the blessings and trials they have worked through together. Lansing’s first concern was always for LynAnn and their family and LynAnn always supported Lansing’s work and his projects.

When Lansing and LynAnn were considering moving to Cedar City, I recall our discussing our previous trips ( vacations ) to the area, and we highly recommended the location to them. Then, about a year later when we were considering moving to Cedar also, Lansing told us he was very happy about their decision to relocate. He remarked on the small town personal touch he appreciated when, in order to get a loan for some new office equipment, the banker in invited him to lunch to discuss it. Both Lansing and LynAnn helped us tremendously in our move to Cedar City with everything from borrowing a snowsuit, to dinners at their house, to introducing us around town, to advising us about the medical community.

Lansing loved adventures and we had several hiking trips together. My favorite was hiking the Subway in Zion. We had lots of fun climbing down a slick rock canyon wall with ropes and swimming a deep cold pool with a chock- stone blocking the way so that we had to dunk our heads and swim under the freezing water for a short distance. We were shivering terribly after the cold swim but no one complained. In fact, I don't think I ever heard Lansing complain.

Lansing was not content to rest on his successes. He always had a new mountain to climb, a new place to go, and a new project to work on. He was not happy practicing dermatology out of a single medical office, but was excited to bring his knowledge and skills to the medically underserved rural areas of Southern Utah, Arizona, and Nevada. His enthusiasm and his smile were contagious and had a positive effect on his staff and his patients. The service he provided to nearly every family in the community was exceptional in both medical skill and compassion.

He surely passed through his earthly trials with power and grace. I have been personally blessed to have been acquainted with him. Now, in my mind’s eye, I can see Lansing and Dallin administering to those in need on the other side of the veil. Dressed in white, they are teaching the Gospel to those they have been called to serve.

I don't know why, but Lanny keeps popping into my mind, so I felt I must let his family know that this loss has affected so many in Arizona. Knowing "Lanny" from elementary school on up many of us have fond memories. Many used to ask if we were brother and sister or twins. His parents have always been so kind and are also in our thoughts. What an amazing person "Lanny" grew up to be and such a wonderful family.

It's been nearly a year since the tragic accident. You are still in our prayers. We really miss Lansing. He was a dear colleague and friend. He always had such a sweet spirit about him and gave us such great medical care. When we first thought something was wrong with our son John he met us at the hospital at 8:00 p.m. to get labs ordered. He was always such a great support and gave us superior care. He is greatly missed!!
